Company of Heroes 3's Operation Torch DLC ships off to North Africa in November, for new missions based around the Allied landings
Patton of attack
· Rock Paper ShotgunAtten-shun! Company Of Heroes 3's got new single-player missions inbound via a DLC set during the Allies' 1942 invasion of North Africa. You'll take charge of American forces through a campaign steeped in second world war history that's designed to test your tactical nous and ability to upgrade fighting units to come out on top. It's out on November 25th.
As is made rather obvious by its name, the DLC depicts Operation Torch, which saw the Brits and yanks work together to invade Vichy France-controlled Algeria and Morocco. There's a "dramatic campaign arc that spans the opening invasion, the defeat at Kasserine, and the final assault on Hill 609", no doubt with copious mentions of names like Eisenhower and Patton across its 15 missions.
You'll don the boots of three American soldiers who're either in command or in the thick of the action on the battlefield, with devs Relic noting that their "perspectives reflect the hardships, losses, responsibilities, and lessons learned as they are forged into the fighting force that will liberate Europe".
In between the likes of urban tank battles and stealth ops, you'll pick upgrades earned through completing objectives, ensuring your troops fight in the manner that best suits your preferred tactical slant. For example, I assume you'll be able to go all-in on artillery if all you're after is some big booms that look impressive, but might prove useless if the enemy are safely tucked away in deep cover waving their middle fingers at your boys.
"Company Of Heroes 3 is a rip-roaring return to form and then some for Relic's much loved RTS, and its stirring orchestral score will have you beating your chest and yelling hoo-rah like only the best toy soldier fantasies can," former RPS commander-in-chief Katharine wrote of COH 3 on release in 2023. "If Relic can iron out some of those lingering campaign niggles, this could easily be an all-timer for WWII strategy buffs."
More recently, current boss Julian gave roguelite spin-off Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand a go, coming out with the impression that it's a shakeup which succeded in increasing his appreciation for the series.
