The United States and Iran said on Sunday (Jun 14) they reached a deal to end the Middle East war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but offered little indication on the thorny question of Tehran's nuclear programme.

Washington and Islamabad said the agreement was to be signed on Friday in Switzerland.

Hours after the announcement, however, Israel's defence minister said that Israeli forces would remain in Lebanon.

Following that, Iran's foreign ministry said in a news briefing that the US must ensure that Israel commits to stopping the war in Lebanon under a framework deal to end the Middle East conflict.
