College football odds, picks, predictions for Week 5, 2024: Proven model likes Notre Dame in best bets

SportsLine's advanced computer model has revealed its 2024 Week 5 college football picks

· CBS Sports

No. 7 Miami has steamrolled all four opponents it has faced this season, and the Hurricanes will take aim at another blowout victory when they host Virginia Tech on Friday during the Week 5 college football schedule. Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward is one of the early Heisman Trophy favorites, passing for 1,439 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for 89 yards and another score. Virginia Tech's passing defense will be the best that Ward has faced this season, but Miami is still a heavy 17.5-point favorite in the Week 5 college football odds. The Hokies have lost to both power-conference opponents they have faced, but should you fade them with your Week 5 college football bets?

That game is an appetizer prior to Saturday's main course, which features four ranked vs. ranked matchups. The top game on the schedule pits No. 4 Alabama (+2) vs. No. 2 Georgia in an SEC showdown at 7:30 p.m. ET. Before locking in any Week 5 college football picks on those games or others, be sure to see the latest college football predictions from SportsLine's proven model.

The model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Since its inception, it has generated a profit of well over $2,000 for $100 players on its top-rated college football picks against the spread. It is also coming off a profitable 13-9 season on top-rated spread picks. Anyone who has followed it has seen strong returns.

Now, it has turned its attention to the latest college football odds and Week 5 college football betting lines on the spreadmoney line and over/underHead here to see every pick.

Top college football predictions for Week 5

One of the college football picks the model is high on during Week 5: No. 16 Notre Dame (-6.5) picks up a double-digit win over No. 15 Louisville in a 3:30 p.m. ET matchup on Saturday. Notre Dame's most memorable performance this season was a 16-14 loss to Northern Illinois as a four-touchdown favorite, but the Fighting Irish have been rock-solid in their three other games. They beat then-No. 20 Texas A&M on the road while also handing Purdue its worst loss in school history in a 66-7 final.

Notre Dame has covered the spread in five of its last seven games dating back to last season, with one of those ATS losses being last week's 28-3 win over Miami (OH) as a 27.5-point favorite. Louisville is 6-13 in its last 19 road games, and it has a tall mountain to climb as Notre Dame seeks revenge for last year's loss to the Cardinals. SportsLine's model expects Notre Dame to exact revenge in double-digit fashion, as the Fighting Irish cover the spread almost 60% of the time. See the rest of its Week 5 college football picks here.

Another prediction: No. 21 Oklahoma (-2.5) notches a comfortable road win at Auburn in a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday. The Sooners made their SEC debut last week against Tennessee and suffered a 25-15 loss at home. However, the Sooners did manage to hold the Volunteers nearly 40 points below their season scoring average entering the week and a quarterback change from Jackson Arnold to Michael Hawkins Jr. seemed to spark the offense late.

Hawkins led the Sooners on a pair of fourth-quarter scoring drives and went 11-for-18 for 132 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 22 yards. Meanwhile, Auburn looked lethargic in a 24-14 loss to Arkansas last week and also only scored 14 points in their only other matchup against a power conference opponent, a 21-14 loss to Cal. That's a big reason why the model has Oklahoma covering the spread in well over 60% of simulations on its way to the first SEC win in program history. See picks for every other game in Week 5 here.
