In a step to buttress national government efforts, several residents of Johnsonville and other townships are set to benefit from a three-month free vocational skills training program in seven different courses.

The program which will focus on vocational courses including pastry, beauty care, soap making, catering, bio-digester engineering, satellite installation, and AC and Refrigeration repair is an initiative of the community leadership of Karn Karn’s Town Community through its youth chair (Haggai Gondah).

Providing the overview of the program to participants at the official launch and orientation for students, Haggai Gondah, Karn Karn’s town youth chair explained that the initiative grew out of his quest to ensure that young people are empowered with skills that will allow them to meaningfully contribute to the growth and development of their communities and the country at large.

Gondah who is also a Liberian broadcast journalist working as the head of News at Freedom FM was elected as youth chairperson in an election conducted in Karn Karn’s Town, a community located in the township of Johnsonville with a commitment to advocate for the empowerment of young people of the community, something others thought would have been a difficult task to fulfill.

“During the election, I promised that when you elect me, I will ensure that I advocate for you to get empowered and it is because of that that I started looking for ways to see how best I live up to my promise to you now that your elected me,” Haggai told the gathering.

When I met our partners for the Liberia Youth and Communities Empowerment Program, they informed me that they could only train women and girls so I said to myself what will become of my brothers who are today consider as threat to society and so I had to I had to rallied around to see that we include courses for our men and today we can see that bio-digester, satellite installation, and AC and Refrigeration repair has been added. He further

Haggai concluded by saying “We added these courses with the belief that you will come, for free and learn them to prepare yourself for a better tomorrow and please don’t make us shame because if you do, we might take this opportunity to other communities where they will appreciate it and make good us out of it for the future but I know you will not let us down as we ourselves are fighting not to let your own after you voted for us as your community leaders”.

For his part, the General Chairman of Karn Karn’s Town community, Mr. Jelson E.S Kemeah admonished the participants to make good use of the training opportunity provided to better their lives.

Chairman Kemeah further that the leadership of the community is going to continue to seek for more bigger opportunities that will help improve the community and make its residents marketable in society.

All we want you to do is for you all to hold together and continue praying for your leaders as we strive to lead you and I want to say thank you to my youth chair for his innovation and commitment to join us to work for you and I’m not surprised, chairman Kemeah noted.

Also speaking was the Executive Director of the Liberia Youth and Communities Empowerment Program, Mr. Victor Howard who reiterated his organization’s commitment to implementing the programs for the over five hundred youths and old folks.

Mr. Howard expressed joy in working with the leadership of Karn-Karn’a Town through their youth chairperson and promised to ensure that the best is achieved from the training by the participants.
