New Delhi: The Supreme Court hearing on CBSE’s three-language policy has been postponed to September 17. The court once again suggested considering an exemption for students currently studying in Class 6 this time.

The Solicitor General assured the court that he would discuss the matter with the concerned authorities.

Centre Says CBSE Working On Implementation Modalities

Earlier, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it was working on suggestions for implementing the CBSE policy requiring Class 9 students to study three languages, including two Indian languages.

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati told a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana that CBSE is in the process of working out various modalities and sought time.

The top court took note of the submission and deferred the matter by a week.

Supreme Court Says Children Should Not Face Pressure

The Supreme Court had earlier, on August 20, stressed the need to find a solution to issues arising from CBSE’s three-language policy for Class 9 students, observing that children should not come under pressure.

The court noted that there was nothing wrong with introducing the policy. However, the petitioners’ concern was about the manner in which the policy was being introduced.
