HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition Launches in the UK with “Mary” the AI Companion

HMD has introduced a specialized variant of its retro clamshell phone to the UK market, targeting older demographics with a unique modern twist: an integrated AI companion. The newly launched HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition takes a familiar feature phone form factor and infuses it with “Mary,” an AI conversationalist designed specifically to provide accessible interaction and companionship for seniors.

Meet Mary: An AI Built for Seniors

Developed in partnership with inTouch—a firm specializing in AI call services for older adults—Mary is accessible directly from the phone’s main menu via a simple call button. The integration removes the friction of downloading apps or dialing specific numbers.

Mary is uniquely engineered to accommodate older users. The AI utilizes simplified vocabulary, speaks at a measured, slower pace, and patiently waits through long conversational pauses. Furthermore, Mary retains context from previous interactions, allowing users to engage in ongoing discussions about history and nature, play memory games, or simply enjoy a casual chat at any hour of the day. The only step that may require assistance from a relative is the initial setup, which involves scanning a QR code inside the box or visiting a dedicated activation web page.

Utilitarian Hardware with a Classic Pedigree

Beneath the AI integration lies straightforward, reliable hardware. The Senior Edition is built upon the foundation of the standard HMD 2660 Flip (released in early 2025) and shares its architectural DNA with the Nokia 2660 Flip from 2022.

The device features a 2.8-inch QVGA primary display and a 1.77-inch QQVGA external screen for checking the time and caller ID. The core specifications include:

• Processor: Unisoc T107
• Memory & Storage: 64MB of RAM and 128MB of internal storage, running the S30+ operating system.
• Battery: A 1,450mAh removable battery charging via USB-C, delivering up to 8.1 hours of talk time.
• Durability & Dimensions: IP54-rated for dust and splash resistance, weighing 136.4g and measuring 198.9 x 55 x 19mm.
• Extras: Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, wireless/wired FM radio, an MP3 player, dual microphones, and a 0.3MP rear camera.

HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition Pricing and Subscription Details

The HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition is currently available through HMD’s UK online storefront for £79.99. This initial purchase includes five complimentary hours of conversation with Mary.

Once the trial period runs low, inTouch sends an email notification to the registered account. Continued access to the AI companion costs £16.90 per month. If a user chooses not to subscribe, Mary is simply disabled, and the device continues to function perfectly as a standard, reliable flip phone.
