Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti and his assistant son Davide are divided about a first team star regarding how much he should play according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

After making impressive goalscoring cameos in his first season at the Bernabeu in 2023/2024, where Los Blancos won an impressive treble including a 15th Champions League crown, Arda Guler expected to have more prominence this term.

According to OK Diario and its director Eduardo Inda, not being given a single minute in the derby against Atletico Madrid irked the youngster, with Inda adding that Ancelotti the elder has doubts about Arda's defensive work.

Arda was impressive in Turkey's 4-2 UEFA Nations League win over Iceland on Monday and netted in the 88th minute.

When club football takes over the calendar at the weekend for the rest of the month, however, it remains to be seen how much involvement he has in key fixtures that pit Madrid against bitter rivals FC Barcelona in El Clasico plus last season's UCL final foes Borussia Dortmund and Ancelotti's former club AC Milan.

SPORT explains that there is an internal conflict of sorts playing out between Ancelotti and his son.

While the former reportedly believes that Arda has defensive shortcomings, Davide is fighting his corner for the 19-year-old to enjoy more prominence.

Though Arda would have a starting role in most other teams thanks to his deniable overall quality, 'Don Carlo' prefers midfielders more of Aurelien Tchouameni's build who are more defensive and have good feet "even if they lack creativity".

Yet in attacking midfield, it is hard for Guler to find a way into the first XI thanks to competition from the likes of Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde who are undisputed Ancelotti favourites.

During a campaign which could well provide over 70 matches as Madrid contests seven competitions, Arda will simply have to work hard and be patient while hopefully being granted opportunities to impress further down the road.

In the meantime, don't be surprised to see him linked to loan moves away from the Spanish capital and especially to former club Fenerbahce.
