Metallica is a thrash metal band, founded in Los Angeles in 1981. To date, the band has released eleven studio albums, the latest being '72 Seasons', released in 2023. It has won numerous awards, including nine Grammys. In addition, since 2009, Metallica has been a member of the Rock Hall of Fame. Metallica has revealed they’re extending their 72 Seasons tour in 2025 with several dates announced across North American markets. The band will be returning with support acts Pantera and Ice Nine Kills who accompanied them throughout the last two years of their world tour. However, Metallica will also be welcoming two new support acts Limp Bizkit and Suicidal Tendencies, who are on select dates of their 2025 tour.

Starting in Las Vega, Nevada on April 12th and then closing off the tour in Denver, Colorado on June 29th, Metallica will be performing 21 shows next year, three of which will be headlining festival performances at Sick New World fest in Las Vegas and the Danny Wimmer Presents festival Sonic Temple in Ohio’s Historic Crew Stadium.

During this run Metallica will also be making their first ever appearance in Blacksburg, Virginia, home of the Virginia Tech Hokies — the College football team that has garnered mass attention for their use of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” which has been used for the last 20 years as the Hokies take the field.

Metallica is only just finishing the second year of the 72 Seasons world tour with the final 2025 shows slated for Mexico City this month. Unlike the first announcement of the 72 Seasons tour, Metallica has not announced any separate European dates to coincide with this North American leg next year, which seems strange considering countries like Ireland haven’t seen the band perform since 2017. However, it could be possible that the band has other dates scheduled for Fall 2025 that they’re waiting to announce later in the year.

It’s quite a coincidence that today saw tour announcements from two of the biggest acts in the heavy metal genre, Iron Maiden with their 50th anniversary world tour announcement and now Metallica with another 72 Seasons tour. As it stands right now 2025 is looking to be a spectacular year for Metal fans, and there’s only more tours announcements to come.
