You Probably Missed ‘Squid Game’ Season 2’s Key Post-Credits Scene
by Paul Tassi · ForbesI’ve never been the biggest fan of TV shows airing post-credits scenes, as they are easy to miss, and sometimes the streaming service itself minimizes the window during the credits before you even see them. But with Squid Game season 2, Netflix lets the credits run for a little bit after episode 7 so you can see a short clip teasing season 3. But it’s very short, and I would not be shocked if 90% of people missed it. Spoilers follow, obviously.
The sequence, which I’m not going to post a bootleg version of here, includes the following:
- Three players looking up at a hanging version of the robot girl from Red Light, Green Light, the motion-sensing one that gets people sniped. The shirt may be a different color but that could just be the lighting.
- One of the players is #100, who is the businessman who is the most in debt out of everyone and wants to continue the games no matter what. I don’t know if we’re supposed to remember who #096 and #353 are, who are also featured.
- We see another big robot, this time a boy in a little hat, seemingly a counterpart to the girl, as a part of this new game. No word on whether it has motion-sensing eyes, and I can’t tell from the shot.
- Then, there is in fact a literal red light and green light shown, though attached to a train crossing indicator. Behind it we see what looks like part of a faux house, but that’s all I can gather.
The point here is that despite the uprising that left dozens of players and guards dead, the games will continue on from here. Season 2 only covered the first three games of the week, so no doubt the third season will cover the last three. Presumably, this is the fourth. There were 100 players left after the third game before the events of the finale, but between the O’s butchery of X’s in the dorm fight, and then most of Gi-hun’s strike team dying, we’re looking at what, maybe 60-70 left now?
My guess is that despite being captured by the Front Man, Gi-hun will be thrown back into the games. His “core” group has been decimated with his out-of-game friend dying and the Front Man going back to being the Front Man, faking his own death as a player. Other characters like the mother and son, pregnant woman and trans woman spec ops soldier are still alive and playing. On the “bad” side, the businessman, the shaman lady and the addict Thanos lackey (RIP Thanos) are still alive.
So, the games continue, and I’d be shocked if season 3 (reportedly in 2025) didn’t get us through all of the final three. But who will Gi-hun face in the finale? Can it be anyone other than the Front Man? And what is this new game about?
