Quincy Jones, Revered Music Producer, Dead At 91
by Quentin Thane Singer · ForbesLegendary music producer Quincy Jones, who’s worked alongside Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Aretha Franklin among other iconic artists is dead at 91. The news comes from Jones’ publicist who told the the Associated Press that he had passed Sunday evening, November 3rd.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
Quincy Jones is survived by his seven children, Rashida Jones, Kidada Jones, Kenya Kinski-Jones, Quincy Jones III, Jolie Jones Levine, Martina Jones, and Rachel Jones.
Having 28 Grammy wins and 80 nominations since 1961, Jones is the second most Grammy awarded artists in history, tied with Beyoncé. The sheer number of hits and and world renown artists that Quincy Jones has helped produce is far and above any other producer in contemporary music.
From producing Michael Jackson Thriller to co-writing Lionel Richie’s “We Are The World,” Jones was a prolific composer, producer, and musical mastermind whose work stretched across a variety of music genres throughout his career — Jones not only produced the King of Pop’s hits “Bille Jean,” “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” and “Thriller,” but also recruited guitar virtuoso Eddie Van Halen for the guitar solo on the multiplatinum hit, “Beat It.”
Among several of his achievements, Jones has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (class of 2013), been nominated for seven Academy Awards (and won one), received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2001, and most recently was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame as a foundational inductee in 2021.
