J&K: Search Operations Conducted Near Bakshi Stadium Ahead of Republic Day

Srinagar, Dec 22: Security forces on Sunday carried out searches in areas surrounding Bakshi Stadium, the main venue for Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir, officials said.

The searches were conducted in the densely populated commercial and residential areas of Amirakadal and Maharaja Bazaar, located close to the stadium. Sniffer dogs and metal detectors were deployed to check for explosives, arms and ammunition inside several residential units.

Officials said no suspicious material was recovered during the searches so far.

The anti-sabotage checks form part of heightened security measures ahead of Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations, for which Bakshi Stadium serves as the primary venue in the Valley.

The iconic Clock Tower at Lal Chowk, a major tourist attraction in recent years, is also located close to Amirakadal, where the security searches were carried out. (Agencies)
