Govt Cuts Export Duty on Diesel and ATF; Petrol Excise Duty Unchanged

New Delhi: The government has reduced export duties on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), according to a notification issued by the Centre that came into effect from Friday.

As per the Ministry of Finance, the export duty on diesel has been fixed at Rs 23 per litre, while ATF will attract Rs 33 per litre. There is no export duty on petrol, which remains unchanged.

The Ministry said export levies, including the Special Additional Excise Duty and Road and Infrastructure Cess on petrol, diesel and ATF exports, were introduced on March 27, 2026. The move was aimed at ensuring adequate domestic availability of petroleum products by discouraging exports amid the West Asia crisis.

Officials clarified that there is no change in the existing excise duty rates on petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption.

The government said the revised structure continues to balance export regulation with stable domestic fuel pricing and supply management.
