PM Modi Reduces Convoy Size, Pushes Austerity Measures

NEW DELHI, May 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly reduced the size of his convoy as part of an austerity push, days after urging citizens to limit fuel consumption and adopt energy-saving practices.

The downsizing has been implemented during his recent domestic visits, official sources said, while maintaining essential security arrangements under SPG protocol.

The convoy size was reduced during visits to Gujarat and Assam, following his speech in Hyderabad.

Sources said the prime minister also directed that electric vehicles be included in his convoy wherever feasible, without making fresh purchases.

Amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia, Modi on Sunday called for austerity while addressing a rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party in Hyderabad.

He suggested measures such as reducing petrol and diesel usage, opting for metro services in cities, carpooling, increasing the use of electric vehicles, relying on railways for parcel movement, and promoting work-from-home practices to conserve foreign exchange. (Agencies)
