NDA MPs hold march in Parliament over alleged police action against Jharkhand students

New Delhi, Aug 11: NDA MPs on Tuesday held a march inside the Parliament premises protesting alleged police action against students in Jharkhand, accusing the Opposition of disrupting proceedings despite the government’s assurance that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is ready to respond to the issue.

The MPs carried placards alleging that the Opposition was avoiding a discussion on the student protests. The march was held after the NDA Parliamentary meeting, Mangal Milan.

Union Minister Anupriya Patel accused the Opposition of deliberately disrupting Parliament. She said the Opposition had earlier raised the issue of the paper leak and sought the resignation of the Education Minister, a demand she said was accepted by the government.

“Despite the acceptance of their demands, the Opposition is not ready for discussion,” Patel said.

Union Minister and BJP MP from Ranchi Sanjay Seth said Jharkhand was observing a shutdown and accused the Hemant Soren-led government of using force to suppress protesting students. He also criticised Chief Minister Hemant Soren over his handling of the issue.

BJP General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh termed the alleged police action against students unfortunate and accused Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of adopting double standards on student issues.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj also accused Gandhi of disrupting parliamentary proceedings and repeatedly shifting the focus of discussions. She alleged that he demands answers from the government while simultaneously obstructing the functioning of the House. (Agencies)
