Commercial LPG Price Hiked by Rs 993 per Cylinder
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, May 1: The price of commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was increased by a steep Rs 993 per 19-kg cylinder on Friday, marking the sharpest-ever single revision amid rising global energy costs driven by the ongoing West Asia conflict. This is the third consecutive monthly hike in commercial LPG rates.
With the latest revision, a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder used by hotels, restaurants, and other establishments now costs Rs 3,071.5 in Delhi, up from Rs 2,078.50 earlier.
Earlier, prices were raised by Rs 195.50 per cylinder on April 1, following an increase of Rs 114.5 per cylinder on March 1. In the last three revisions alone, commercial LPG rates have surged by a total of Rs 1,303.
In contrast, prices of domestic cooking gas (14.2-kg cylinder used in households) remain unchanged. Domestic LPG was last increased by Rs 60 per cylinder on March 7 and currently costs Rs 913 in Delhi.
State-owned oil marketing companies—Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited—revise LPG and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices on the first day of every month based on international benchmark rates and foreign exchange fluctuations.
Global crude oil prices have reportedly risen nearly 50 per cent due to disruptions in energy supply chains caused by the West Asia conflict.
Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices continue to remain unchanged after a Rs 2 per litre reduction in March last year. Petrol in Delhi currently costs Rs 94.72 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 87.62 per litre. (Agencies)
