Govt Doubles 5 Kg LPG Cylinder Allocation for Migrant Workers
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi: The government has doubled the daily allocation of 5 kg free trade LPG cylinders for migrant labourers across states, aiming to enhance access to cooking fuel for this vulnerable group.
Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Neeraj Mittal, has written to Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories informing them of the revised allocation.
According to the Ministry, these 5 kg cylinders will be supplied to State Governments and their Food and Civil Supplies Departments exclusively for distribution among migrant workers, with support from Oil Marketing Companies.
The enhanced allocation will be determined based on the average daily supply of cylinders provided to migrant labourers, replacing the earlier cap of 20 per cent set in the March announcement.
The Ministry said that around 6.75 lakh 5 kg LPG cylinders have already been sold since March 23, indicating growing demand under the scheme. (Agencies)
