Nepal Flash Flood Death Toll Rises To 987, Nearly 4,000 Still Missing

KATHMANDU, Sep 1: The death toll from the devastating flash floods in Nepal rose to 987 on Tuesday, as security forces recovered more bodies from several affected areas, officials said.

Authorities said 3,916 people, including 583 foreigners, remain unaccounted for, while security personnel, including the Nepal Army, have intensified search and rescue operations across the affected areas.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the highest number of bodies was recovered from Chitwan, where 321 people were found dead, followed by 216 in Nawalparasi East, 170 in Nawalparasi West and 95 in Nuwakot.

The death toll also includes 65 people from Gorkha, 55 from Dhading, 38 from Tanahun and 27 from Rasuwa, the authority said.

The flash floods have affected eight districts across the country, causing widespread destruction and leaving thousands of people missing.

The NDRRMA said 279 people were injured in the disaster, of whom 168 have been discharged from hospitals following treatment.

Search and rescue teams continue to operate in the affected areas as authorities work to locate those still missing and assess the extent of the damage caused by the floods. (Agencies)
