CNG Price Increased by Re 1/kg, Second Hike in Less Than a Week
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, May 17: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices were increased by Re 1 per kg on Sunday, marking the second hike within a week.
With the latest revision, CNG now costs Rs 80.09 per kg in the national capital, according to Indraprastha Gas Limited, the country’s largest city gas distributor.
The increase follows a Rs 2 per kg hike implemented on Thursday.
However, the prices of piped natural gas (PNG) supplied to households remain unchanged.
In a statement, Indraprastha Gas Limited said, “The retail selling price of CNG has been increased by Re 1/kg with effect from 6 am on 17.05.2026 in all geographical areas (GAs) of IGL.”
The company attributed the revision to rising input gas costs and a sharp appreciation of the US dollar.
Despite the hike, CNG continues to offer up to 45 per cent savings in running costs compared to vehicles using alternative fuels at current price levels. (Agencies)
