Pokhran Tests Symbolized India’s Scientific Strength, Says PM on National Technology Day
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, May 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests reflected India’s scientific excellence and commitment, as he greeted citizens on National Technology Day.
Marking the anniversary of the May 11, 1998 tests at Pokhran Test Range, Modi said the achievement highlighted the dedication of Indian scientists and introduced the world to India’s technological capability.
“Greetings on National Technology Day. We recall with pride the hard work and dedication of our scientists, which led to the successful tests in Pokhran in 1998,” he said in a post on X.
The prime minister described technology as a key pillar in building a self-reliant India, saying it is accelerating innovation, expanding opportunities and driving growth across sectors.
“Our continued focus remains on empowering talent, encouraging research and creating solutions that serve both national progress and the aspirations of our people,” he said.
Modi also termed scientists the “true architects” of the nation’s pride and self-respect.
India conducted five nuclear tests of advanced weapon designs on May 11 and 13, 1998, in the Rajasthan desert, with the first three detonations carried out simultaneously at 15:45 IST on May 11. (Agencies)
