Pulwama Attack Mastermind Hamza Burhan Killed by Unknown Gunmen in PoJK
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, May 21: Hamza Burhan, one of the alleged masterminds of the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, was reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan-occupied Jammu Kashmir (PoJK), according to reports on Thursday.
Burhan, also known as “Doctor,” was reportedly shot multiple times by unidentified assailants in Muzaffarabad and later succumbed to his injuries.
The Centre had designated him as a terrorist in 2022 under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). In an official notification, the government identified him as Arjumand Gulzar Dar alias Hamza Burhan, a resident of Kharbatpora, Ratnipora in Pulwama district and an associate member of the banned terror outfit Al-Badr.
Burhan was allegedly linked to the 2019 Pulwama terror attack in which Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber Adeel Ahmed Dar rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a CRPF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Lethpora in Pulwama district.
The attack killed 40 CRPF personnel and triggered nationwide outrage, significantly escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
No official statement confirming Burhan’s death had been issued by Indian authorities till the filing of this report.
