GDC Paloura celebrates Constitution Day

Jammu Tawi: The Department of Political Science at Government Degree College (GDC) Paloura, in collaboration with the NSS and NCC units of the college, observed Constitution Day to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The event commemorated the day the final draft of the Constitution was unanimously adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949.
The celebration aimed to honor the vision and efforts of the Constituent Assembly, which laid the foundation for India’s democratic republic. While the Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950, when India became a republic, the adoption of the Constitution remains a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.
The program was coordinated by Prof. Amit Bhalla, Head of the Department of Political Science, and was attended by faculty members and students from the college. Prof. Bhalla highlighted the salient features of the Indian Constitution, emphasizing the essence of its preamble. Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the college, presided over the event and spoke about the significance of the Constitution. She noted that this monumental document laid the foundation for India’s democratic governance, ensuring justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity for all citizens. She also acknowledged the role of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution, and emphasized that Constitution Day serves as a reminder of the tireless efforts of the Constituent Assembly.
Dr. Shivani Sharma, NSS Programme Officer, read out the Preamble of the Constitution, followed by faculty members and students reciting it together. The event was attended by faculty members including Prof. Vijay Chandan, Dr. Rabia Iqbal, Prof. Vijay Kumari, Prof. Neha, Vikram Jamwal, Dr. Chinmei, Dr. Vandana, Dr. Ikhlaq, and others.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Prof. Kusha Sharma.
