Surinder Koli, Acquitted in 2006 Nithari Killings Case, Found Dead in Haridwar

HARIDWAR, Sept 18: Surinder Koli, who was acquitted by the Supreme Court in the Nithari killings case, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a rented tea stall in Haridwar, with police investigating the incident from all angles.

According to police, Koli was found hanging from a rope inside the tea stall located opposite Lalmata Temple on Sapt Sarovar Road. The Sapt Rishi police outpost under City Kotwali received information about the incident, following which a police team reached the spot.

Police identified the deceased as Surinder Koli, who had been an accused in the infamous Nithari killings case. He had reportedly been living in Haridwar for the past few months and had been running the rented tea stall for the last few days.

No suicide note was found at the spot, police said, adding that the circumstances surrounding his death were being investigated.

Police have informed Koli’s family in Almora and initiated an investigation into the incident. Officials said all possible aspects are being examined before reaching any conclusion about the circumstances of his death.

Koli had been acquitted by the Supreme Court in the Nithari killings case last year after spending years in custody in connection with the case.
