Srinagar, Jul 16: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecast a fresh spell of widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from July 19, warning of heavy rain, flash floods, landslides, mudslides and waterlogging in vulnerable areas, with peak weather activity expected on July 21 and 22.

Director MeT, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said the weather is likely to remain generally hot and humid from July 16 to 18, although a few places may witness brief spells of rain and thundershowers.

He said July 19 is expected to remain partly cloudy, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Isolated areas, particularly in the Jammu division, may experience brief but intense heavy showers.

According to the forecast, widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected across Jammu and Kashmir from July 20 to 23, with the most intense weather activity likely on July 21 and 22. Heavy rainfall and intense showers are expected in a few districts of both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions during this period.

The MeT Department has warned of flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas of the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal Range and some hilly parts of the Kashmir division between July 20 and 22.

It also cautioned about waterlogging in low-lying areas, minor flooding and a sharp rise in the water levels of rivers, streams and local nallahs, especially in the Jammu division.
