Parliament adjourned till noon amid opposition protests
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi: Proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were disrupted on Wednesday as Opposition members protested over issues including the Adani controversy, violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, and rising crime in Delhi. In the Lok Sabha, as the House convened for the day, Opposition members, particularly from the Congress and Samajwadi Party, stood up to raise various concerns. Several members from these parties occupied the Well of the House, while others stood in the aisles, shouting slogans and demanding attention. Speaker Om Birla urged the members to let the Question Hour proceed and assured them that their issues could be addressed later. Despite this, protests continued, and after about six minutes, the session was adjourned until 12 noon.
In the Rajya Sabha, the session was also briefly interrupted. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced that he had received 18 notices under Rule 267 seeking suspension of scheduled business to discuss matters related to the Adani Group, violence in Sambhal, and the surge in crime in Delhi. However, the Chairman did not accept the notices, and the proceedings were adjourned until 11.30 am after the listed papers were tabled. Both disruptions highlight ongoing tensions between the Opposition and the government, as calls for accountability and debate continue to resonate in Parliament.
