Man dies, seven hospitalized after suspected food poisoning

Rajouri/Jammu, May 16: A 60-year-old man died and seven others, mostly children, were hospitalised after allegedly consuming a wild vegetable in Rajouri district, officials said on Saturday.

The incident occurred in Mohra village of the Kotranka subdivision, where members of two families fell ill after eating the vegetable on Friday evening, reportedly showing symptoms of food poisoning.

All affected individuals were first taken to the Community Health Centre in Kandi and later shifted to Government Medical College Hospital Rajouri for specialised treatment.

Officials identified the deceased as Mohammad Hussain, who died during treatment. The condition of the remaining seven patients is being monitored at the hospital.

Doctors said it appears to be a case of food poisoning, though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
