Congress demands discussion on Adani Bribery Scandal at APM ahead of Parliament Session
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi: The all-party meeting convened by the government ahead of the Winter session of Parliament saw the Congress pushing for a discussion on the bribery charges against the Adani Group. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari emphasized that the issue of alleged bribery by the Adani Group should be the first item addressed when Parliament convenes on Monday.
Tiwari cited serious concerns over a report claiming that over Rs 2,300 crore had been allegedly paid by the company to politicians and bureaucrats in exchange for favorable deals in its solar energy projects. The issue is currently under investigation by U.S. prosecutors, who have charged billionaire Gautam Adani in connection with a scheme to pay a bribe of USD 265 million to Indian officials.
In addition to the Adani issue, Congress called for discussions on other pressing matters, including severe air pollution in northern India, the escalating situation in Manipur, and recent train accidents.
The meeting, convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, saw participation from BJP president J.P. Nadda, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Gaurav Gogoi, along with other notable leaders. The Winter Session of Parliament will begin on Monday and run until December 20.
Several opposition leaders have expressed plans to raise the Adani issue in Parliament, with Rahul Gandhi calling for a joint parliamentary committee probe. The session will also discuss bills, including the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and others concerning maritime laws and judicial jurisdiction.
The session will be crucial in addressing these issues, as well as upcoming events, including a 75th-anniversary celebration of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
