India re-elected to UN Peacebuilding Commission for 2025-26
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, Nov 29: India has been re-elected to the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the 2025-2026 term, reaffirming its continued commitment to global peace and stability. The announcement was made by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations on X, which highlighted India’s active role as a founding member and major contributor to UN peacekeeping efforts.
The PBC, established in 2005, is an intergovernmental advisory body that supports peace initiatives in conflict-affected countries. It serves to advise the UN General Assembly and Security Council on peacebuilding and sustaining peace. India has been a member of the commission since its inception.
The commission focuses on promoting a strategic and integrated approach to peacebuilding, fostering collaboration across UN entities, and supporting nationally-led peace efforts in conflict zones. It also emphasizes coordinating humanitarian, development, and peace actions, inviting representatives from peacekeeping operations and other UN bodies to contribute to its discussions.
India’s re-election underscores its ongoing engagement with the PBC to further global peace efforts.
