A SHOP worker has been nominated for Customer Service Employee of the Year for making her customers feel “valued”.
“That is exactly what Betty does every day,” Dominika O’Dwyer said of Elizabeth Gomez who works in the Morrisons in Kensington Place.
“No matter how busy the shop is she always has a genuine smile and takes the time to ask how my family is doing. She remembers people, conversations and makes every customer feel like more than just another transaction. It never feels forced or scripted – it is simply who she is.”
Ms O’Dwyer said it is Ms Gomez’s “kindness, patience and positivity” that keeps her coming back.
She said that while more shops are replacing their employees with self-checkouts, it is people like Ms Gomez, and her attitude to work, who show why “human interaction still matters”.
Ms O’Dwyer added: “Betty represents the very best of our Island community: friendly, caring and genuinely invested in the people she serves. You cannot replicate that with technology.”
