AN AI-powered website designed to help voters hone their choices on Sunday attracted 5,000 people in the fortnight leading up to the election.

Inspired by his 17-year-old daughter asking for guidance on who to vote for, tech entrepreneur Gus Fraser built jerseyvotes.org – which used Artificial Intelligence to review the manifestos of candidates and then proposed the best matches based on a ‘voting quiz’.

He also added a ‘ask’ feature, allowing voters to pose questions that AI would answer by drilling into what candidates said at hustings, in their manifestos and on vote.je. More than 280 questions were asked, such as ‘Does anyone mention neurodivergence?’ and ‘Which candidates talked about GST?’

Mr Fraser said he was “pleased” with the response to the site, adding: “…Increased transparency and democracy is really important, and [that] is only going to increase.

“Going forward, I would like to track, say, the top five things that each of the elected candidates have promised and whether they delivered on them. So, in four years times, we will see if they kept their promises.

“Also, indexing all the Hansards and propositions and whatever is going on in the States Assembly will be interesting because people then can then see who’s all talk and who’s achieved. That way, we will gradually continue to improve accountability of our elected representatives.”

Meanwhile, another website aiming to identify which Senators most closely align to a voter’s views based on a series of policy questions set up by tech executive Tom Coward and Potting Shed managing director Ed Prow received 1,200 hits in the run-up to the election.
