Ocean Bratley-Brown – Volunteer/Fundraiser of the Year

A YOUNG woman who has raised thousands of pounds for charity while overcoming her own personal challenges has been nominated for the Volunteer/Fundraiser of the Year award.

Ocean Bratley-Brown (20) has been described by her nominator, Charlotte Makin, as “the true definition of someone who puts others before herself” and an inspiration to “everyone fortunate enough to know her”.

Ms Makin explained that despite Ms Bratley-Brown facing daily challenges, she never allows them to define her. Instead, she said the fundraiser is known for her “resilience, kindness and unwavering determination”,

“support, encouragement and a smile” to those around her.

Ms Bratley-Brown has raised more than £7,000 for local charities over the past few years, “making a real difference to causes that matter deeply to her”.

This year, she is taking on an even bigger challenge by running a half-marathon on her 21st birthday to raise money for Healing Waves.

While many people would spend such a milestone celebrating themselves, Ms Makin said Ms Bratley-Brown has “chosen to mark the occasion by giving back to others”, adding this is a “reflection of the compassionate person she is”.

Ms Makin explained: “Her courage, generosity and determination prove that one person really can make a lasting impact.” She added that “Ocean embodies everything the Pride of Jersey Awards stand for and I can think of no one more worthy of this honour”.
