The next Samsung Galaxy Trifold may have an S Pen surprise
by Mark Jansen · Android PoliceThe Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold was something of an experiment for Samsung, but that doesn't mean it isn't planning on making more double-folding smartphones. A new patent has emerged that may show how Samsung will expand the formula and make a super-sized foldable even more appealing.
Yes, it's Samsung's usual approach to innovation: Throw an S Pen at it (via Android Headlines).
The next Trifold may include an S Pen stored inside the device
That may sound mocking, but honestly, we love an S Pen, and when Samsung can cram one into a device, it should be applauded for such.
Giving the Trifold S Pen support seems like a great idea, but we didn't expect Samsung to draft up plans to include an S Pen inside the next Trifold. But that's exactly what a newly discovered Samsung patent implies.
As you can see, the left side of the image doesn't make it clear whether the S Pen is inside the Trifold, or just resting on top of it — but the right-hand side makes it far clearer, and seems to show a large circular area which would be where the S Pen would reside inside the device.
Samsung is the king of the high-end stylus phone, with the Galaxy Note being the stylus phone for many years. The S Pen has since moved to the Galaxy Ultra phone, and the Z Fold devices have come with S Pen support for a few generations now.
However, this would be the first time we'd see an S Pen inside a foldable device. The Z Fold always needed a special case to keep the S Pen inside, and there's no sign of that in the Trifold patents.
A stylus with a device the size of a Trifold does make a lot of sense. It would make it the perfect foldable device for those who like to draw or scrawl, or whose jobs benefit from having a stylus nearby. However, it's worth saying that this patent may not come to anything. Companies like to patent as much as they can, usually to stop competitors from doing the same. So it's entirely possible we will never see a Trifold with an S Pen built in.

At the moment, a second Galaxy Z Trifold seems like a definite reality, given how well the first Trifold sold, even with a large pricetag and limited availability. If the next one has an S Pen built in, you can be sure we'll hear about it.
