I paired Gemini with Google Keep and never lost a great idea again

Although not a juicy tech confession, I have never used more than four note-taking apps in my life. Of these, I took most of my notes on Google Keep because I love how it gets the basics right without compromising on simplicity.

The note-taking app only got better with time, and so did my reliance on it. At this point, it's perhaps the highest, as I never depended on Google Keep this much.

Credit where it's due. I have to give it to Gemini for making me believe that I can't do without Google Keep. I realized it only after I paired Gemini with Google Keep.

While pairing one software with another may sound daunting, I do it quite comfortably, all thanks to Gemini's Google Workspace integration.

As a user, I don't care about the underlying tech that made the pairing possible. The outcome is more important. Ever since I started pairing Gemini with Google Keep, I have never lost a great idea.

I let Gemini think before storing ideas in Google Keep

Like everyone else, I struggled a lot to choose the right color to paint the interior walls. I ultimately took help from Gemini to decide which color would look great in my rooms.

I took a photo of my balcony and was about to type a prompt asking Gemini to show me color options that would make the walls look great. This was the first time I thought, what if my balcony looked like a tiny garden?

I didn't let it escape and instantly put it in Gemini to seek its opinion. I won't share details about what my balcony looks like, but Gemini liked it and instantly suggested what I would need to turn it into a reality.

Gemini wasn't spot on with everything it said, so I wanted it to expand on certain ideas. I also made certain changes and then asked its opinion. It told me what worked and what didn't.

All of this took only about 15 minutes. However, had Gemini not existed, I would've only stored the idea in Google Keep so that I could come back to it later and research online.

I have done it multiple times with other ideas in the past, but I rarely revisited them, or worse, I failed to remember what made them exciting in the first place.

I no longer face this issue, as I instantly put what I feel is worth expanding on using Gemini. Ever since I started using Gemini, I have never had to push a good idea aside for later.

All my chats are available in Gemini so I can revisit and resume the conversation if I want to tweak anything. However, I don't keep my ideas limited to Gemini chats.

I save the best parts of Gemini's answers in Google Keep so that I can find them quickly whenever I need them. This is way better than trying to find that one chat buried in a sea of conversations.

A prompt is all you need

Google Keep isn't connected to Gemini by default, so you need to manually pair them. You need to follow only a few steps to connect Google Keep to Gemini.

To do it, open Settings in Gemini, select Personal Intelligence, click Connected Apps, and enable the Google Workspace toggle. This will connect Gemini to your Google Workspace apps, including Google Keep.

Now, I can type a prompt in Gemini to save its response as a note in Google Keep. You can continue the conversation, and if Gemini spits out more interesting information, you can append the previous note with the additional details.

Not only that, but you can also delete your previous notes right from Gemini.

My Google Keep account stores notes that I created both manually and generated and saved using Gemini. They don't really mix up, as the ones generated by Gemini clearly mention that at the bottom of each note.

However, I use a smarter trick to find all my Gemini-generated notes in Google Keep. Instead of checking the sources, I type "Gemini" in the search box, and it shows all the notes that I generated using Gemini.

On top of this, you can use labels and add background colors to make your Gemini-generated notes stand out from the rest. However, the search bar trick is still the one to beat.

I'll keep using Gemini and Google Keep together

I have been using Gemini and Google Keep together for months, and I don't want to go back.

Still, there are many other apps better than Google Keep, but it's hard to beat the level of convenience Google's note-taking apps offer when paired with Gemini.

For a casual note-taker like me, pairing Gemini with Google Keep is the best way to never let a great idea slip away.
