Gemini’s latest upgrade makes it much more useful at work

Google has been slow in integrating third-party apps into Gemini. While the company's AI assistant supports Model Context Protocol (MCP), it's limited to developer tools, CLI, and enterprise platforms. Over the last few months, Google has been trying to address this problem by rolling out direct integration with several third-party apps within Gemini. And now, it's expanding that list further.

Starting today, Gemini users can integrate the AI assistant with several apps and services, such as Airtable, Linear, Wispr AI, Adobe, and more. The full list is as follows:

• Productivity: Airtable, Linear, monday.com, PandaDoc, Wispr AI, and Zoho
• Creativity: Adobe, Picsart, Squarespace, and Webflow
• Lifestyle: apartments.com, Experian, Peloton, and SeatGeek

If you use any of these apps, you can connect them to Gemini to pull in relevant information directly. This builds on the August additions, which included Granola, Otter.ai, Ticketmaster, Wix, and more.

For example, I use Wispr Flow's Notetaker to capture and transcribe meetings. With Wispr AI integration, I can ask Gemini to pull the last meeting notes from Wispr Flow and add relevant actionable items to my to-do list.

Likewise, with Airtable integration, you can ask Gemini to pull pending tasks, upcoming deadlines, and other relevant information from your Airtable database.

You will find these apps in the Connected Apps section in Gemini's settings. Or, you can directly summon them in a chat by mentioning them with the @ symbol.

Such integration will make Gemini more useful in daily use and integrate more seamlessly into your workflow.

Google needs to open Gemini's MCP support

It's good to see Google adding support for more third-party apps to Gemini. However, an app-by-app integration approach is slow and unsustainable.

Gemini already supports Model Context Protocol (MCP), yet custom MCP apps are currently limited to eligible personal accounts in the US. Opening MCP support would instantly give users the ability to integrate several apps and services at once. Both Claude and ChatGPT use the MCP protocol and integrate with hundreds of third-party apps and services.

Google’s current approach limits Gemini’s usefulness if it doesn’t support an app you rely on. Wider MCP access would instantly address this problem, giving more users a way to connect to their preferred apps and services. Weirdly enough, Gemini Spark supports custom MCP endpoints, allowing integration with a wide range of third-party apps.
