I'm finally the 'organized' friend, thanks to a little help from Gemini

It’s too early to judge whether AI has a more positive or negative impact, but it’ll surely have a more negative impact if there are no checks and balances.

It is for governments around the world to influence generative AI trends. But for now, I’m making good use of generative AI to get things done quickly.

I use a few generative AI tools almost daily to stay productive. Of all these tools, Google’s Gemini deserves a special mention here because this is the generative AI chatbot that changed me as a person.

Gemini taught me to become more disciplined and not miss stuff.

I had been anything but organized throughout my life, and Gemini changed that. I’m finally the ‘organized’ one in my friend circle, thanks to a little help from Gemini.

Gemini helps me pay my bills on time

I connected Gemini with Google Workspace. This is one of the few things you must do if you are new to Gemini, because the benefit is enormous.

After I connected Gemini with Google Workspace, it can scan my Gmail and find emails containing bills.

All I do is ask Gemini whether I have to pay a bill this week or month, and it’ll quickly scan my Gmail inbox and provide accurate information.

I never missed my bills before the existence of generative AI. However, back in the day, I had to put some effort into making sure I didn’t forget about the due dates.

Gemini has made it a lot easier for me. I no longer need to write that information somewhere or memorize it.

Gemini turns my messy ideas into something I can use

I randomly put everything that I plan to do the next day in Gemini, and the AI does a great job at building a timeline, telling me when to do what.

I typed a prompt about my plan for Saturday, which included taking my mother to a diagnostic center for an echocardiogram. It made me a table containing all the tasks, time slots, and useful information in Notes.

It told me how long it takes to get an echocardiogram test done in the Notes. This has helped me better plan the rest of the day when I come back home.

However, it’s not easy to find your chats in Gemini, especially if you create a lot of chats in a day, as I do.

This is why I always save all the important Gemini responses as Google Docs. This way, I don’t need to open Gemini and scroll endlessly to look for all those useful pieces of information.

Since I connected Gemini to Google Workspace, I can ask Gemini to save the above information as a Google Docs file.

Not only does it create the document, but it also provides a link to the document in the chat response. All you do is click the link, and the document will open in Gemini.

Gemini can also connect to WhatsApp and send messages to contacts without leaving the app. This helps while planning something with others.

Instead of sending my half-formed thoughts, I can ask Gemini to create a clear plan, make it a Google Docs file, and then share it with the person on WhatsApp. I can do all of this within the Gemini app on Android.

Gemini gets more out of YouTube than I do

I can’t remember the last time I watched a long, informative video on YouTube. I have stopped doing it since I started using Gemini.

Instead of watching the full video on YouTube, I copied the link to the video, pasted it into Gemini, and asked it to give me all the key points discussed in the video.

I used the YouTube integration multiple times to plan my travel. I don’t watch the full travel vlogs because Gemini is better at getting more from those videos than I am.

It can create a list of places the vlogger visited and can also tell me about the best time to visit them, expenses, things to avoid, and more.

I’ve gone on vacation three times with my partner so far this year, and I planned all my trips like this. I kept my partner in the loop, thanks to Gemini, which helped me share everything with her on WhatsApp.

I didn’t try to be organized — it just happened

I wasn’t looking to use Gemini to make my life better. I started using it to satisfy my curiosity.

But this was when the Gemini chatbot came into existence. As Google’s AI tool matured beyond a chatbot, it gradually became an indispensable part of my life.

I still don’t know what it takes to become organized, and that’s exactly the point.
