Samartex punished by Hearts of Oak for profligacy in front of goal – Christopher Ennin
· GhanaSoccernetFC Samartex head coach Christopher Ennin said his side were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal as Hearts of Oak edged a 1-0 win in Friday’s Ghana Premier League encounter at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
Hearts’ victory lifted them to second place on the table with 28 points, level with leaders Aduana, who face Young Apostles on Sunday, while Samartex were left to rue missed opportunities that could have altered the outcome.
Ennin pointed to key moments early in the contest, where his team failed to capitalise before conceding at the other end.
“So I think it’s something that really affected us. And as soon as they turned back, we got punished. When you get your chances and you don’t bury them, it comes back to haunt you,” Ennin said after the match.
Samartex almost stunned the Phobians inside two minutes when Christian Agyenim Boateng pounced on a mistake by Abdul Karim, but his close-range effort struck the face of goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi, allowing Hearts to escape.
The home side responded swiftly. Mawuli Wayo first fired over from a promising position before making amends moments later.
The winger forced an error from Roland Grippman inside the box, regained possession and squared the ball for Hamza Issah, who finished calmly to score the decisive goal.
