Kotoko win is in the past – Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko turns focus to GoldStars clash
· GhanaSoccernetMedeama coach Ibrahim Tanko has shifted his attention away from his side’s emphatic 4-0 demolition of Asante Kotoko, insisting that result is now history as his team prepares for a crucial title showdown against league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.
Speaking ahead of the high-stakes encounter at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday, Tanko acknowledged the importance of the Kotoko victory but stressed that the upcoming match against Gold Stars presents an entirely different challenge.
“It was a very good win for us, especially at this crucial moment, but I think that game is past tense and we have to concentrate on the next game, which is very tough against a direct opponent who we have two points ahead of,” Tanko said.
Gold Stars currently top the Ghana Premier League table with 53 points, two clear of second-placed Medeama. The title race is finely poised, and Sunday’s clash could have a major say in where the trophy ends up.
Tanko is well aware of the stakes. “Definitely, this is going to be a very different game altogether, but I think we are prepared for it,” he added.
Medeama, however, will head into the match on the back of a disappointing 3-2 loss to Dreams FC in the MTN FA Cup semi-finals.
The club’s Black Galaxies contingent, led by midfielder Salim Adams, has since returned to the squad ahead of the weekend’s fixture, providing a timely boost for the title chasers.
