“This is historic” – Ibrahim Tanko reflects on winning Ghana Premier League title with Medeama SC

The head coach of Medeama SC, Ibrahim Tanko, has opened up on their Ghana Premier League title triumph.

Medeama SC have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League after a commanding 5-2 victory over Heart of Lions in their penultimate fixture of the season, securing their second league title in history.

The triumph also marks a major milestone for head coach Ibrahim Tanko, who lifts his first-ever Ghana Premier League title in his coaching career since taking charge of the club.

Reflecting on the achievement, Tanko described the success as a defining moment in his career and praised the support he received from the club’s leadership and fans.

“Yes, it’s very historic. I came here last season in the second round. I think the trust that the president had in me definitely is something that gave me motivation, and I thank him very much, and I thank all the supporters who rallied behind us from day one. There is a lot to do from here, so let’s go and prepare for that,” he said.

Following their domestic success, Medeama SC will now represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Champions League preliminary stage.
