Newly appointed Black Stars goalkeeping coach Daniel Gaspar has expressed high confidence in Ghana’s domestic goalkeeping talent after observing a recent Ghana Premier League clash between Accra Hearts of Oak and Karela United.

The veteran Portuguese-American trainer, who officially began his role on April 28, 2026, was a keen observer at the match as part of an extensive talent assessment ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Following the fixture, Gaspar praised the standard of play, stating he ‘enjoyed Hearts of Oak v Karela’ and noted a "lot of talents on the field".

He also highlighted the quality of Solomon Agbasi, who was recently named in head coach Carlos Queiroz's 23-man squad for an upcoming friendly against Mexico on May 22.

“| [enjoyed Hearts of Oak v Karela]. A lot of talents on the field. Absolutely [Benjamin Asare is a good goalkeeper]. He is part of the national team pool. Agbasi has got quality. We have some good goalkeepers in Ghana,” he told 3 Sports.

His visit to the Pobiman Sports Complex on May 5 included personal interactions with Asare and a review of the club's training structures led by Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

Gaspar, a long-time collaborator of Queiroz, brings experience from four previous World Cups to a revamped Black Stars technical bench focused on guiding Ghana beyond the group stage in this summer's tournament.
