England set to leave out Foden and Palmer ahead of World Cup clash with Ghana
· GhanaSoccernetEngland are set to leave out several high-profile players when coach Thomas Tuchel names his final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Friday, ahead of the Three Lions’ group-stage clash against Ghana.
According to reports in England, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer are both expected to miss out after inconsistent and injury-hit seasons with Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.
Harry Maguire is also set to be omitted from the squad despite enjoying a strong season with Manchester United.
The 33-year-old reacted emotionally to the decision, saying he was “shocked and gutted” after missing out on what could have been his final World Cup appearance.
England are instead expected to include Ivan Toney, who has enjoyed a prolific season with Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, scoring 32 goals in 32 matches.
Ollie Watkins is also expected to make the squad after helping Aston Villa win the Europa League.
Despite being the top-scoring English player in the Premier League this season, Morgan Gibbs-White is reportedly set to miss out, while Luke Shaw, Levi Colwill and Fikayo Tomori are also expected to be omitted.
England captain Harry Kane is expected to lead a squad that will still include major stars such as Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham and Eberechi Eze.
The Three Lions will warm up for the tournament with friendlies against New Zealand and Costa Rica before opening their World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 17.
England will then face Ghana in a highly anticipated Group L encounter before taking on Panama in their final group match.
