EXCLUSIVE: Jerry Afriyie earns late Ghana call-up for Mexico friendly
· GhanaSoccernetYoung striker Jerry Afriyie has received a late call-up to the Ghana squad ahead of the international friendly against Mexico on May 22.
Afriyie, who was not included in the initial squad, has joined camp early after becoming available for selection, giving new Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz the opportunity to assess the striker ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The forward enjoyed an encouraging campaign with RAAL La Louviere in the Belgian Pro League, making 31 appearances while scoring five goals and providing one assist during the season.
The Mexico friendly is expected to offer several fringe players the chance to impress as they compete for places in Ghana’s final World Cup squad.
Ghana are using the match as part of preparations for the tournament, where they have been drawn in a difficult group alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars are expected to continue camp preparations in the coming days before facing Mexico later this week.
