Ghana forward Felix Afena-Gyan has confirmed that his residence in Italy was burgled while he was away on international duty with Ghana.

In a statement released on Monday, the 23-year-old disclosed that the incident occurred over the weekend during his time with the Black Stars in Mexico, where he featured in Ghana's 2-0 defeat in an international friendly against one of the hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Upon his return to Italy, Afena-Gyan discovered that his apartment had been unlawfully accessed and several personal belongings had been stolen.

The statement reassured supporters that the player was not harmed during the incident and remains in good spirits despite the setback.

"The matter has been formally reported to the relevant Italian law enforcement authorities, who are actively investigating the case," the statement said.

No further details regarding the stolen items were disclosed, with the player's representatives citing the ongoing investigation.

Afena-Gyan also appealed for privacy, urging members of the public and media to refrain from sharing footage or images of his residence while authorities continue their work.

The former Roma striker thanked fans for their support and expressed his intention to focus fully on his football commitments going forward.

The unfortunate incident comes on the back of a successful campaign in Turkey. Afena-Gyan played a key role for Amed SK in the Turkish 1. Lig, helping the club secure a historic promotion to the Süper Lig.

The Ghanaian forward scored five goals and provided several assists during the season, producing a number of decisive performances, including late winners, as Amed SK earned promotion to Turkey's top flight for the first time in the club's history.
