Roger De Sa: Black Stars players must play tight roles for World Cup success
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Stars assistant coach Roger De Sa says Ghana’s technical team is focused on ensuring players are deployed in their correct positions as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will make their fifth appearance at the global tournament this summer in North America, with expectations high following disappointing group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.
With less than a month to kick off, the South African tactician stressed that the priority is not overhauling the squad’s style but maximising its existing talent.
“We are not going to teach them how to play. We have the players,” De Sa said on the Beyond The Whistle podcast.
"We only have to put them in the right position, with the right frame of mind, and when they put on the jersey, they should perform," De Sa added.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. They open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field in Toronto, before facing England on June 23 in Boston and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Ghana will step up preparations with international friendlies against Mexico on May 22 and Wales on June 2 as they fine-tune their squad ahead of the tournament.
