Otto Addo congratulates Chad after earning their first point against Ghana in 2026 World Cup qualifiers
· GhanaSoccernetBlack Stars head coach Otto Addo has congratulated Chad after the Central African nation claimed their first-ever point in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying by holding Ghana to a 1-1 draw in N’Djamena.
Before Thursday’s clash, Chad had suffered six straight defeats in Group I, but their spirited display against the four-time African champions ended that run.
Addo, while disappointed with Ghana’s missed opportunities, chose to highlight Chad’s achievement and the warm reception his team received.
“I want to congratulate Chad for getting the point, for sure. I think they've got great support from the spectators. I want to thank everybody, the fans, for how they welcomed us in Chad, during our days in Chad,” he told reporters after the game.
“Chad also, I have to say, did well in defending and they didn't allow too many chances. For me, the most important thing is the three, four good chances we had — we have to score the second goal.”
Chad’s resolute performance drew praise for their defensive organization and fighting spirit, ensuring Ghana’s path to the 2026 tournament became more complicated.
Despite the setback, the Black Stars remain top of Group I with 16 points, three clear of Madagascar. Addo’s side will now turn their attention to Monday’s crucial fixture against Mali in Accra.
