Black Stars can possibly win 2026 World Cup, says Sports Minister Kofi Adams
· GhanaSoccernetThe Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, beleives the Black Stars have what it takes to possibly win the 2026 World Cup.
The four-time African champions will head into the tournament as one of the lowest-ranked countries. The Black Stars have been paired with Panama, England and Croatia in Group L.
Despite failing to win a game in the last games, Mr Adams is optimistic that Ghana can beat the odds and win the tournament.
"I will say that we are preparing. If I tell you that we are ready...we don’t even have a head coach," he told Channel One TV.
"So it means that we are not fully ready yet. But I see us being ready by the time it's time for us to play our first game - against Panama.
"This is a World Cup that I see us doing well. We should be hopeful. We may not have the best of players that we had in some time past, based on them playing together for some time. But we still have what it takes for us to go very, very far. Maybe possibly even win the World Cup," he added.
Following the dismissal of Otto Addo, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to announce a new head coach next week before the team reassemble in May for their friendly game against Mexico before wrapping up their preparatory games on June 2 against Wales.
The Black Stars will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ghana will be aiming to improve on recent World Cup outings, having exited at the group stage in both 2014 and 2022.
