Sports Minister Kofi Adams explains why Otto Addo was sacked

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has broken his silence on the dismissal of former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, insisting the decision was a collective one driven by performance concerns and technical assessments.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams acknowledged that Addo helped Ghana qualify for the 2026 World Cup but admitted that "everyone expressed a lot of concerns" about the team's overall performance under his tenure.

According to the minister, the Ghana Football Association conducted its own technical analysis and determined that certain benchmarks were not being met.

"If the FA have done their technical analysis and thought that he wasn't meeting them... and they want that decision taken, mine is to make sure it's a good decision, and we supported it," he said.

Adams also dismissed claims that he personally travelled to Germany during an international friendly to orchestrate the sack.

"I didn't need to go there to get the coach sacked," he stated, explaining that his trip was pre-planned for routine engagements and that discussions about Addo's future had already begun before his arrival.

He maintained that the decision followed due process and was taken in the best interest of the national team. Carlos Queiroz has since been appointed as Addo's replacement on a four-month contract ahead of the World Cup.
