Prosper Narteh Ogum cites hunger and unity for first stint success with Asante Kotoko
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has cited hunger and unity within the playing body as the key drivers behind his successful first spell with the club.
Ogum was appointed to lead the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the 2021/22 season, having guided WAFA to a third-place finish in the Ghana Premier League the previous campaign. The former Ebusua Dwarfs tactician went on to enjoy an impressive debut season in Kumasi, steering Kotoko to the Ghana Premier League title.
Speaking on the GFA Podcast hosted by Patrick Akoto, Ogum, who currently leads the Black Starlets explained that the club’s title-winning campaign was built on shared hunger, strong relationships within the squad, and unwavering support from the hierarchy and supporters.
“After the season at WAFA, I had few calls and got the appointment to lead Kotoko. I introduced my philosophy and it worked. I had good players like Abdul Ganiu, Imoro Ibrahim, Mudasiru, Mfegue, Mbella and others,” he said.
“What actually worked that time too for me was the fact that these guys were hungry to win the league because it had been some time for Kotoko to win it. They saw me as a brother and uncle, so we had a good relationship and they were ready to work.”
“Actually, that did the trick and the supporters too were in full support of whatever we were doing, including management. The whole of Asanteman were behind us and that kept everybody on their toes.”
Meanwhile, Ogum’s second stint with the Ghanaian giants proved less successful, as he struggled to secure consistent results, leading to his dismissal by the interim management committee led by Nana Apinkrah.
