Antoine Semenyo has become the first Ghanaian player to be nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award after an outstanding campaign with Bournemouth and Manchester City.

The Ghana international was named among the nominees for the 2025-26 award following an impressive season in which he registered 16 goals and four assists in 35 league appearances.

Semenyo began the season strongly at Bournemouth before securing a January move to Manchester City, where he quickly established himself under Pep Guardiola. The forward made an immediate impact at the Etihad Stadium, winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for February after recording three goals and one assist in five matches.

The 26-year-old’s nomination marks a historic moment for Ghanaian football, with no player from the country previously shortlisted for the award since its introduction in the 1994-95 season.

Several Ghanaian players have enjoyed successful Premier League careers over the years, including Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan and Thomas Partey, but none had previously received a nomination for the individual honour.

Semenyo is shortlisted alongside players including Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes and Declan Rice for this year’s award.
