World Cup 2026: Former Ghana defender Dan Quaye confident of Black Stars turnaround at tournament
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Ghana international Dan Quaye is optimistic about Black Stars chances ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana are set for their fifth World Cup appearance, after booking a place for the expanded tournament to be co-hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The West African football heavyweights are paired in Group L against European giants, England, 2018 World Cup finalists, Croatia and Panama. Ghana will open their account against Panama before taking on England and Croatia respectively.
Speaking to Ghanasportspage, Quaye entreated Ghanaians to be patient with the team, while tipping the West African powerhouse to shine at the mundial.
“The management and the leaders are doing their part. It’s up to the players to do theirs,” he said. The whole Ghana loved us during our time, but why are these guys not getting the same thing? However, Ghanaians should be patient with them,” he added.
“I hope that we will go to the World Cup with no injuries. Injuries have really affected the team. I am certain that things will change at this World Cup,” he said.
Ghana have begun preparations in Cardiff ahead of their pre-World Cup friendly against Wales, slated for June 2, with head coach Carlos Queiroz overseeing training sessions at Dragon Park.
Ghana has previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarterfinals.
