Yussif Chibsah calls for structured investment in Ghana football to revive Black Stars
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Ghana midfielder Yussif Chibsah has called for stronger investment and long-term planning in Ghana football, saying the country must move away from short-term thinking if it is to rebuild the Black Stars.
Speaking on Channel One TV, he stressed that modern football success is now driven more by structure and process than raw talent.
“Football is like farming. We have time to clear the land where you have to apply fertilisers, you have to plant, water it, have time for it to grow and then you reap
"You cannot just skip the process. You can’t just expect to plant it and reap. Modern football is not like that.”
Chibsah said Ghana must develop proper systems and treat football as a serious investment rather than relying on talent alone.
“So it is high time we understand this and then try to invest in it. Football is investment now. It’s a full-time business being run by business models all around Europe.”
He pointed to Ghana’s 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification as an example of what structured planning can achieve.
Under former coach Ratomir Dujković, the Black Stars combined discipline with a clear tactical framework to qualify for their first World Cup and reach the Round of 16 on debut, a standard he believes should guide current rebuilding efforts.
