Hohoe United players to be granted free agent status after four-year ban

Players of Hohoe United FC will be cleared to pursue new opportunities after the club was hit with a sweeping four-year ban by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

The ruling, confirmed on Friday, follows Hohoe United’s withdrawal from the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season—an action the Committee deemed a serious breach of league regulations and an act of misconduct. The decision effectively sidelines the club from all GFA-organized competitions for the duration of the suspension, marking one of the toughest sanctions in recent domestic football history.

As a direct consequence, the Committee has ordered that all registered players of Hohoe United be granted free agent status through the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee.

This move releases the players from their contractual ties to the club, allowing them to sign with new teams without restriction. However, the ruling maintains that any pre-existing conditions tied to their original transfers into Hohoe United - such as solidarity payments or sell-on clauses - remain valid and enforceable.

The decision provides immediate relief for players whose careers were thrown into uncertainty by the club’s abrupt exit from the top flight. With their professional futures no longer tethered to a suspended entity, they can now actively seek playing opportunities both within Ghana and beyond.
